What to Expect from Your Dental Crowns

Posted on 9/21/2021 by Dr. Amy Nguyen
What to Expect from Your Dental CrownsIf you have recently gotten dental crowns—or if you are slated to get them—you may be wondering what you should expect. Some patients are not even sure what a dental crown is, let alone what changes they should expect once they have one. If this sounds like your, here is some information to help you know what the experience will be like.

What Is A Dental Crown?

First, if you have not yet gotten a crown, you may be confused as to what a dental crown even is. Simply put, a dental crown is an engineered replacement for your natural tooth. Fashioned from durable and safe materials, the crown is designed to replicate the original tooth in function and feel. It is placed over the existing tooth and held in place with a specialized dental adhesive.

What To Expect

The good new is that, for the vast majority of people, life with a dental crown will not differ at all from life without one. The dental crown will function exactly as your tooth did. And, depending on what it is made of, it may appear the same as your natural tooth did.

Of course, if the dental crown is placed on a tooth that was damaged for some reason, the dental crown will alleviate any discomfort you may have been feeling. So to the extent that your life with a crown is different from your life with a natural tooth, it will be a good difference!

Caring for a crown is simple. You'll just continue with your normal oral hygiene routine.

As always, if you have any questions about getting a crown—or about any other matter related to your oral health—we are here to help you! Feel free to contact us anytime.
